HOW A CUP OF TEA CAN HELP TO RELIEVE YOUR STRESS

Tea As A Stress Buster

In this fastly changing world, we may be getting forward with our technology and developing at a never seen before pace but at the same time our mental, physical and spiritual problems have increased dramatically, and our stress levels have reached new heights. Be it finances, studies, work, or relationships we face stress everywhere and this high level of stress is unhealthy and can lead to various health-related issues like headaches, high blood pressure, chest pain, and insomnia and can even worsen any existing disease.

Overcoming stress is not easy and we sometimes tend to easy solutions like alcohol or medications which are dangerous for health and can make one addicted to them. But why opt for such an unhealthy and risky solution when you have a much healthier and natural alternative? Tea, for many, is the elixir of life. For centuries, people across the globe have testified to the relaxing and invigorating qualities of drinking natural beverages like black tea, green tea, warm milk etc. And now when you have the option of having sugar-free tea, instant tea or sugarless instant tea which is not only natural but healthy as well as time-saving, why go for any other drink or solution to relieve your stress.

Scientists are also now beginning to examine how tea exerts its effects on mood and cognition and researchers have found that drinking tea lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol. And evidence of long-term health benefits is emerging, too: drinking at least 100 millilitres (about half a cup) of green tea a day seems to lower the risk of developing depression and dementia.

In 2016, a researcher, Scholey, reported that volunteers who consumed tea — had lower cortisol levels and reported feeling more relaxed after performing stress-inducing tasks than did those who consumed a placebo. Scholey found that L-theanine (a compound found in tea) improved memory and reaction time when consumed with caffeine. L-theanine passes through the blood-brain barrier, so it could directly benefit brain plasticity — the process through which the brain regenerates itself. It could also help in reducing cortisol and stress levels.

There are various other benefits of drinking tea which not only make it the best option to relieve stress but it’s also a natural and healthy drink as well. These benefits include:

  • Contains anti-oxidants
  • Lesser caffeine than coffee
  • Reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Fat-burning effects

So why go for any other drink when you can just sip a cup of tea and relieve that full day of stress and enjoy its other benefits as well.
